About the Tarot

Tarot cards have fascinated people for centuries. Prized by gypsies and magicians, linked with witchcraft, and denounced as heretical by medieval churchmen, Tarot has survived every twist and turn of fortune. What seem to be the earliest existing Tarot cards, of which 17 remain, date from 1392.

The Tarot is, amonst other things, a tool for divination. It can be used to analyse problems, clarify the decision making process, or even help you to understand yourself and others a little better. It can stimulate intuition, and help the mind to escape from the habitual straightjacket of logical thought into a more freewheeling world.

Self knowledge and acceptance are what all forms of serious divination are really about. Nobody really knows for certain how a set of cardboard pictures could possibly reveal anything about the present, let alone the future.

Put in its simpliest of of descriptions, the Tarot is a set of 78 cards all of which contain images and symbols relating to life in general. We start at Zero with The Fool and he takes us on a journey to show us the many experiences, lessons, challenges, sadness and happiness that we all have to learn along the way - as well as the many people who come in and out of our lives.

There are 22 Major Cards reflecting important areas and aspects of life. With the remaining 56 Minor Cards split into the following 4 suites:

CUPS reflect emotions, feelings, moods, love and relationships.

SWORDS highlight thought and action.

WANDS are fire, communication and people in your life.

PENTACLES, also called Coins are stability, material posessions, security and character.

Of course the Tarot is a lot deeper and to describe it fully would take pages and pages. The only way to start to understand the Tarot is to experience it.
